Data collection

The data collected on this site has been gathered using automated processes which are run on a regular basis. Automated tools include Lighthouse, Wapalyzer and custom code which inspects the contents and headers of a page. These results can potentially vary depending on the network latency and the machine the tests are being run on. As such, results can potentially vary over time.

Causality

The results do not necessarily indicate that there is a causal relationship between the CMS/Segment/Design System which is being analysed and the scores for the sites which fall within it. The skill of the team building the site will a contibuting factor to the scores which are generated. ie. The scores produced come down to the tool being used and the person using it. For this reason we have also included standard deviation statistics for the values which have been collected. Results with higher standard deviations would point to the human element playing a stronger part, although this is not necessarily the case.

Sampling

The Optimal site has taken only a small sample for each of the categories. We have aimed to have at least 50 items in each of the categories so that the significance of the results is increased. Counts are shown against each of the aggregated results. When sampling the sites we have sampled from the better known or more popular sites in each category. This bias will probably lead to better quality sites being selected which will probably tend to inflate the scores over what might be expected from the entire population. We consider this an acceptable decision to make because we are investigating the best each category has to offer.
